Our Church Family
Friedens U.C.C. is a loving congregation in the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference United Church of Christ seeking to joyfully serve Christ. We are a close-knit, caring church family. Our country church is located in the heart of the scenic Oley Valley, an area with a strong tradition of hard work and productivity. We value a spirit of cooperation and respect between the pastor and lay leadership. Our church motto is "Together we serve with joy and love".
Our congregation includes several families with three or even four generations participating in activities and worship. With these strong roots, our church family looks forward to growing in faith and service.
Our Mission
Friedens U.C.C. shall gather in community to:
- Worship God
- Spread the Good News of Jesus Christ
- Joyfully participate in the celebration of the sacraments
- Promote Christian fellowship within the community and the church universal
- Provide spiritual guidance, loving service for all people and to practice equality, compassion, and God's peace
- Share offerings and tithes for the benefit of the local congregation and its mission as well as the mission of the greater church through the United Church of Christ.
We are involved in our Community. Every month we serve a noon meal at Opportunity House, a shelter in nearby Reading PA. We also participate in Ecumenical Food Banks, at our sister church Friedens ELCA, and at the "In His Name" food pantry in Mt. Penn. We sponsored a mission trip for our youth to serve in Manassas Virginia last year (yes, there is poverty in Manassas). We also provide a Visitation Committee for those who are sick and shut-in. Our Congregation also participates in each of the 5 "all church offerings" providing ministry and mission in local and international settings.
Christian Education
We have some outstanding and innovative teachers in our Sunday school program. We have classes for toddlers through adult from September to June. In addition, a Bible Study Group meets bi-monthly. There is a one-week Vacation Bible School and other special activities throughout the year such as outreach projects, Christmas Program, Youth Sunday, and distrbuting palms on Palm Sunday.
One very special group is our puppet ministry, who perform fairly regularly during worship services and perform for other groups as well. The group is comprised of busy teens who are really committed to this ministry despite their full schedules.
Youth Group
We have an active youth group that partipates in many different activities. Some activities are fun and educational such as movie night or building gingerbread houses at Christmas. Other activities such as Quilts for the Salvation Army are designed to support the church and help our community.
Our Community
We are actively involved with our community. Some of the activities that we participate in as part of our mission in the community are: Berks Emergency Shelter, Bethany Children's Home, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boyertown Multiservice, Christmas in the Valley, Daffodil Days (American Cancer Society), Food Pantries, Oley Fair, Oley Valley Ministerium, Post funeral refreshments, Project Graduation (post-graduation party for high school seniors), Puppet Ministry, Quilts for Salvation Army, Salvation Army Angel Tree, Sunday School Shoeboxes, Volunteer Home Care, Women in Crisis, Women's Retreat.
Music Program

We have an execellent music program that we are very proud of. Our Music Director is very talented and a gifted organist, Mr. Norman Taylor, PhD. Dr. Taylor has served several UCC Churches in Berk's County during his 30+ year career. The choirs members perform with heart and soul and truly add to our worship experience each week.
